Book Review: The White Goddess. Gogynfierdd.

March 7, 2010

Reading The White Goddess by Robert Graves. A historical grammar of poetic myth. Feels like there is a test afterwords. And I learned a new word: Gogynfierdd. It means court-bard. Not as ‘poetic’ as it sounds though. They upheld and enforced adherence to historical truth as seen by ecclesiastics.

Still: Gogynfierdd. Gaelic pronunciation so roll the tip of the tongue against the front part of the roof of the mouth right before the dd.

Gogynfierdd. Sounds like a great surname and/or pen name.

Gogynfierdd.
